Code for Change Audience 2

Congratulations Code for Change winners!

The competition was stiff and the judges deliberated for quite some time before deciding on winners in the Code for Change 2012 challenge.

Grand Prize: CERT Mobile

In response to the CERT- Disaster first responders network challenge, we believe that CERT members who are trained to be first responders throughout the country would benefit from having a way to voluntarily connect and know of each other’s skills and location during a disaster.

Promise Prize: Floating Pin

FloatingPin is a students’ owned project being developed for the fellow students. We have started working on the project focusing on following underlying principles. The application combines the broad reach of the Internet with the benefits of local face-to-face interactions. We are focusing on urban areas such as NYC because it provides a critical mass of potential users.

Change Prize: Vote Scope

VoteScope will benefit everyone who has felt confused or discouraged by the inconvenience of the voting process or who has found themselves in a voting booth staring at names they don’t recognize. VoteScope works by collecting and aggregating public information, and then customizing it for a user’s voting district.

And thanks to the audience for picking!

Popular Choice Bookmark’d App

Bookmark’d, an online book community for middle and high school students in answer to this challenge. Allows students to engage with each other as well as teachers, parents, experts, and enthusiasts to gain deeper understanding of text.  The key features of this digital product are literary reviews by students for students, online discussion groups that bolster one’s enjoyment and understanding of individual texts, and social features that facilitate communities built around shared interest in literature.

Congratulations to all the teams who entered and to all the challengers who participated. Code for Change will be following up with networking and opportunities with all teams regardless of their outcome.  We are looking forward to moving the needle towards change for good, and we know we will be doing it all together.  More on the teams and members to follow!
