Applications For Good is One Economy Corporation’s initiative to “focus forward” and ensure everyone has access to the economic mainstream using Internet technology.



Voting Criteria

Potential Impact (10 points)
  • Does this application run on a platform that is largely available to low income or working class Americans? Current greatest to least usage by platfrom is: sms, feature, web, game, smartphone.
  • What is the potential extent of public purpose and social benefit in terms of: number of people served and benefit per user?
  • Does the entrant have a clear understanding of the need addressed?
  • How useful is your application in addressing targeted need?
Feasibility (5 points)
  • Is there a quality plan for further development?
  • Is there a sustainable future? Apps that have a plausible upgrade to revenue path are of special interest.
  • If public or back-end or web-based data is needed to support the app, how reliable and available is this information?
  • If live, personal or community outreach is needed to support the app how is that addressed in your entry?
Originality (5 points)
  • Using the app store as comparison, how original is the approach compared to other apps?
  • Does the application take a unique approach to solving the problem compared to other non-app solutions?
Usability (5 points),
  • What’s the ease of use for this application?
  • What is its coolness and flair factor?
  • What is the integration if any of this application with other services, both public and supplied by the entrant?

How to Enter
During the competition submission period (March 14 – May 16 May 19, 2011), first register to the website (registration is free) and read the complete Official Rules. Use our entry form to create your entry. If you are already a project lead on an existing Solution at A4G, a button will allow you to quickly convert it into a contest entry, where you will be asked to answer additional questions and attach relevant files. When your entry is ready and if you agree with Official Rules, check “I agree”, and submit. All contest entries will appear on our site as Solutions. From the time of your submission up until the contest deadline you may add to or change your description, images, demo video or links, by logging in with the user name and password you used to enter.

Judges
All submissions will initially be screened by members of One Economy’s Applications for Good team, who select the top submissions based on the criteria below. The top submissions will be judged by the expert judges listed below, using the same criteria:

  • Potential impact of the app on target audience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the need addressed by the producers
  • Creativity and originality of the application or prototype
  • Potential for further development or as a viable business in the communities we serve

One Economy and AT&T will help market finished apps after judging by promoting through our network, displaying them in the ApplicationsForGood.org apps catalog with links to download sites and featuring at events and with foundations.

ºThe Brilliant Seed category is inspired by paper prototypes developed by One Economy’s Digital Connectors. The award will go to the developer of the best app that starts with an idea generated from the young innovators. Ideas available March 28th


What Makes an Entry?:
A fully-completed Application Form, with all accurate and up to date contact information as collected in entrant’s profile page on Applications for Good. The form includes:

  • Title
  • Need(s) addressed
  • Solution phase: project (pre-selected)
  • Project description, taken from A4G project or added in the form entry
  • Project featured image
  • Product plan: includes time line and projected goals for app
  • Role of entrant on the project, assets of team, other members of the team with names and roles.
  • A link to video of working application (2:00 min limit). The Project must be at a stage where a field/market test can occur. Idea/concept stage projects will not be accepted.
